I’m agnostic. I’m a writer. I’m a rejection devotee and I’m deeply committed to publicizing unsubstantiated opinions. In May, 2010, I started brainstorming summer writing projects. I came up with three.

1. Develop a heroin addiction by August, finish rehab by October and post a bleak blog by December.

2. Obtain a taser license and tour the U.S.

3. Read the Bible.

In 2010, I read the Bible cover-to-cover, starting in June and finishing Christmas Day. I chose not to read Revelation but promise to read it when I finish Project 2011, which is a back-and-forth between churches and dive bars. Every Monday I’ll write about a new church experience and every Wednesday I’ll write about a new dive bar. Why churches and bars? Because people need both to cope with and understand their lives.

I’m not really on a spiritual quest. I started this whole Bible thing because I love literature but miss all Biblical references. I also wanted to understand my sister who, at the time, was going to church and confusing the hell out of me.

I’ve been to church a few times. My last visit was Dec. 24, 2009. I went with my sister and left with little insight and a plastic candleholder I later recycled. I want to give religion a fair shake and am doing my best to keep an open mind. Admittedly, the name of the blog — ThumpMe — is a little dig at Bible thumpers. Unfair? Maybe, but I have a difficult time with people who force their views on others. I realize this is a minority and trust me, God’s already messing with me on that one by encouraging the pornographically inclined to send me e-mails, tweets, etc.

I love to hear from readers, particularly those who know what they’re talking about because I don’t. Contact me any time with questions, thoughts, musings. Love it.

You know the drill. Connect with us via Facebook. Connections below. (Having difficulty with Twitter but we’re @ThumpMe). By the way, if you want to subscribe to this blog, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page. I can’t figure out how to boost the thing to the top of the page. Urg.

Holy patoot, Ivy, my mother-in-law Annabelle is your guardian angel? Cripes that will mess up the Christmas shopping. One day we must chat about your biblical reading. You may wish to read the Bruce Feiler books as an easy jaunt through biblical development and history. Also, Asimov wrote a fascinating guide through the Bible. Just curious, which version of the Holy Book are your reading: Douay, King James, Standard Revised, New English, somnething else?

Hi John. I haven’t talked to you in a while…hope you’re well. Looks like I’ve finally pegged my guardian angel. Was she a hippie? I’m ready a very simple version of the Bible. It’s called “The Good Book.” That’s about all I know. That, and it has some pretty awful drawings.

    HI There,

I came upon your site today as I was going through some tweets on another Twitter account I take care of. That twitter acct is about writing. Your tag line got me curious and so I thought I’d check out your blog. Glad I did. I’ve had some very interesting church experiences myself … LOL… and look forward to reading more of your thoughts.
